Last week when I was walking around I found this great candy/chocolate shop. As most stores in this city, I find them when I least expect them!
This store, A La Mère de Famille was founded in 1761. Although there are several locations, this shop is the original. It really is great looking. Exactly what you’d hope an older candy shop would like. 🙂
It is difficult to tell from my photos, but you can see most all of the candy is in glass jars. There are chandeliers throughout the shop, and when you pay, there is a little glass cabin, much like a movie theatre! So, of course I had to buy something! 😉
Praline covered hazelnuts dusted with dark cocoa powder? Oui, merci! 🙂

Hi Kate, I love this piece on the candy store. It looks fascinating! Your Great-Grandma Reynold’s family, the Mangieris had a candy store in Maplewood from before WWII to the mid-1970s. We have pictures of it. The front windows were for displays. During holiday seasons all kinds of homemade chocolate pieces were used to create various scenes.
